Alight listed on the Swedish Climate Startup Map
Alight is one of the 108 startups identified as helping to accelerate the green transition.
While we have ambitious goals for the next ten years, we believe it’s important to pause and celebrate the milestones along the way. Let’s have a look at how far we’ve come…
It all began in 2013 when our founders came up with a business model that delivered better profitability and pricing predictability for customers while creating real positive impact for the planet.
Their vision was quickly validated when a few angel investors jumped on board. Shortly after, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) awarded Alight the prestigious “Climate Solver” award for its innovative climate solutions.
In 2014, we secured our first 25-year energy contract and commissioned our first facility, paving the way for a promising future. In the next few years, we signed our first solar contract with AFA Fastigheter Barnängen and won Veckans Affärer’s “Business Model Challenger of the Year” award. We were also awarded “Performance of the Year” by Svensk Solenergi (Swedish solar association) for our solar plant at AFA Fastigheter Barnängen.
By 2017, Alight had built a solid footing in the industry and we strategically shifted our focus to large companies, starting our first major rollout of rooftop solar for Järfälla municipality and Alecta Fastigheter.
Recognizing an exciting business opportunity, in 2019 we entered into a partnership with Infranode as a financier for our solar assets, which in part led to our first offsite Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a 12 MW solar park in Sweden with Swedbank that was commissioned a year later, and our first international framework agreement with Toyota Material Handling for its sites in Europe.
Flash forward to 2022 and Alight has built Sweden’s largest solar park (18 MW) in Skurup for Martin & Servera, Sweden’s fifth largest in Åhus (7.2 MW) for Nolato with Bixia, and a co-located battery storage (2 MW). We were proud to be awarded a total of 6.5 million SEK by Vinnova for a pilot project for fossil-free maintenance in solar parks, and to close out the year, we welcomed new investors, DIF Capital, who injected €150 million to accelerate our growth across Europe.
As we enter our tenth year of pioneering in solar, we’d like to thank our wonderful customers and partners for helping us to deliver a cleaner and more sustainable future. We look forward to the next ten years of meaningful partnerships, and we’re energized by the exciting opportunities ahead. We hope you’ll join us for the journey.
