Sustainability

Responsible solar energy for all

At Alight, sustainability is central to everything we do. We’re working urgently to build a future in which energy is clean, affordable and reliable for all, in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal #7. To do this, we develop, own and operate onsite and offsite solar projects across Europe and sell the clean energy to businesses at a low, fixed cost backed by a power purchase agreement (PPA), always independent of government funding or subsidies. A business model that is sustainable both environmentally and economically is necessary to ensure an impactful clean energy transition.

But of course, driving the clean energy transition is a complex task, and we partner with local communities and environmental experts to understand the ways in which our projects can contribute to improved societies and ecosystems. We’re constantly striving to preserve and promote biodiversity in our projects, while also contributing to a healthier planet and happier people.

Sustainable Development Goals in focus

Our planet

Climate change is the defining challenge of our era, demanding swift action from everyone. At  Alight, our mission is to accelerate solar energy adoption among energy-intensive companies, while at the same time mitigating our own carbon footprint. Together, we can steer society toward a net-zero future.

But our vision extends beyond clean energy. We see ourselves as custodians of biodiversity, carefully integrating ecological measures into every project. Our solar parks not only reduce carbon emissions but also strive to preserve and promote biodiversity in local ecosystems.

In our view, solar power isn’t just about energy; it’s a catalyst for biodiversity conservation. We aim to set new standards, where sustainable progress nurtures nature, creating a world where clean energy and thriving ecosystems coexist harmoniously.

Our people

As a player in the solar industry, we work within an intricate value chain. As such, we always prioritize the health and safety of all workers. Our Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Policy lays out our approach to ensuring no employee, consultant, or contractor suffers from ill health or is injured as a result of their work. We pride ourselves in maintaining and continuously developing a strong HSE-first culture across our team through activities including HSE visits, audits and inspections.

In our own offices, we’re proud to be a diverse team that celebrates differences across gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation. We know diverse teams make better collective decisions and lead stronger teams, ultimately delivering better business performance. That’s why we’re constantly striving to create an empowering, inclusive and equitable environment.

Our projects

Beyond our environmental and social impact, sustainability is embedded in the governance of our projects. We prioritize transparency, ethical conduct, and accountability in our operations. Our governance framework is built on principles that ensure integrity and responsible decision-making.

We uphold a robust governance structure that fosters compliance with stringent ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Our commitment to ethical conduct extends to our interactions with all stakeholders, including our employees, customers, partners, suppliers, investors and the communities we serve.

Moreover, our independence from government funding or subsidies underscores our dedication to a sustainable and economically viable business model. We prioritize financial prudence while maintaining our unwavering commitment to advancing clean energy solutions.

By integrating sustainability into our governance approach, we ensure not only environmental responsibility but also ethical and transparent practices, setting the bar high for an impactful and principled clean energy transition.
