Our story

Powering a brighter future

At Alight, we’re on a mission to kick carbon off the grid by helping energy-intensive businesses switch to solar. We develop, own and operate onsite and offsite solar projects across Europe and sell the clean energy to businesses at a low, fixed cost backed by a power purchase agreement (PPA), always independent of government funding or subsidies. By 2030, we aim to have an installed capacity of at least 5 GW, paving the way for a more sustainable future.

Our history

In 2013, Alight was founded to help businesses decarbonize their operations and drive the transition to a clean energy future. Ten years later, we’re proud to have more than 50 solar projects under management or construction, totaling more than 100 MW, and a growing team of passionate Alighters.

Leading roles at Alight

Harald Overholm

Founder and CEO

Dr Overholm was previously a cleantech venture capitalist and an advisor on solar markets to the WWF and the Swedish Government. He earned his PhD from the University of Cambridge with a thesis on solar diffusion and PPA. He is a member of the International Energy Agency’s PVPS workgroup on solar business models, a former associate with leading global sustainability think tank Stockholm Environment Institute, and a former board member of the Swedish Solar Energy Association.

Richard Nicolin

Founder and Chief Investment Officer

Richard co-founded Alight in 2013 and has 16 years’ experience working with finance. Prior to Alight, Richard worked at the Swedish PE firm Nordstjernan and Bain & Co.

Warren Campbell

Chief Operating Officer

Warren has over 20 years experience in the energy sector, first as a Partner at McKinsey with a focus on energy, and subsequently as co-founder and CEO of his own renewable energy business, Vireo Energy, operating in Eastern Europe. As COO he leads Alight’s teams responsible for procurement, construction and asset management of all our solar assets, as well as sourcing and developing new solar sites.

Liisa Rajala Malmgren

General Counsel

Liisa has experience from providing high-end legal advice at Mannheimer Swartling, the largest top-ranked law firm in the Nordics. She is responsible for optimizing our legal efficiency and ensuring the highest possible level of legal services to our business and our customer projects.

Johanna Snickars

Chief Communications and Brand Officer

Johanna is an award-winning communications leader with 12+ years of experience in the field of communications & PR, and prior to Alight she held leading roles at Microsoft and Ericsson.

Daniel Granlycke

Chief Commercial Officer

Daniel has 11+ years’ experience as a management consultant with focus on new technology and business transformation. Prior to joining Alight he was part of the management team at Capgemini Invent with focus on Industry 4.0 in the automotive & manufacturing sectors. Daniel also has work experience from ABB and projects with focus on smart grid/smart metering.

Leixandre Mera

Chief Financial Officer

Leixandre has 18+ years of experience in finance, with both operational and executive/strategic involvement. He was previously CFO at Opdenergy, an independent renewable energy producer with projects across Europe and the Americas, where he played an integral role in its IPO on the Spanish Stock Exchange. Prior to that, he worked in financial and accounting roles at Xylem Water Solutions and CETCO.

Alexander Rudberg

Head of People Operations

Alexander joined Alight in 2016 to develop a prospecting process for new business opportunities. Since 2017 he manages Alight’s people operations function with responsibility for recruiting and team development. He holds a Master’s Degree in Accounting with a specialization in operations management from Stockholm University.
