Swedbank and Alight (previously Eneo) will build Sweden’s largest solar power plant

Alight is partnering with Swedbank to build Sweden’s largest ground-mounted solar PV plant. Via a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Alight, the bank will be the sole off-taker of what will become Sweden’s largest solar park to date. The park will deliver approximately 10 GWh of solar electricity per year.

The electricity from the solar park will correspond to 30% of the electricity consumption across all Swedbank offices in Sweden, or the entire energy consumption at Swedbanks head office. Alight will operate and maintain the plant whilst Swedbank will buy the produced electricity.

“This is a big step for the solar market in Sweden. Swedbank shows the way forward for other companies that are also keen on making big ventures in solar power without having to invest capital. It will be exciting to see which companies will follow suit,” says Joar af Ekenstam at Eneo Solutions.

The initiative is part of Swedbank’s ambition to reduce its climate footprint. This big initiative will inspire others to make the same sustainable choices. The solar park is planned to be operational by June 2020.
